The Last Resort Blue
Sikhs have duties to fight for justice and to protect minorities, war must be a last resort. When all other methods have failed it is permissible to draw the sword. Certain Sikhs mastered a perfect fighting system combined with spiritual practices, resulting in extremely effective attacks and defence. This martial arts is called Gatka or Shastar Vidya. Guru Har Gobind Singh Ji wore two swords along with Mala beads, a representation of spiritual power. Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji led the Sikhs into battle for the right of religious freedom. Guru Gobind Singh Maharaj organised the Sikhs into an effective army after the Khalsa. Sikhs were willing to give up their lives for religion.
The Khanda, much like war is a supreme weapon of last resort, generating maximum damage due to the sheer force of its double-edged blade. Most art of Baba Deep Singh portrays a Khanda sword, having achieved martyrdom while fighting overwhelming odds, on the battle of Amritsar in 1757.
